While the biggest demonstration, more than 1 million people, ever celebrated in Catalonia, was taking place in Barcelona to reivindicate Catalonia as being a nation, its national representative RL team players showed its big potential in Prague by defeating 16-66 Czech Republic’s national team in Petrovice Rugby Club field.
The match, despite being a friendly game, was tough in defense and fast on attack. Catalonia’s players proved to be better prepared both phisically and tactically. Their varied and fast attack broke once and again the czech defense line. On the other hand, though, three clear defensive mistakes, caused all Czech’s scoring.
After the match, Catalonia’s french coach, Eric Delherbe, was happy about it and said that Catalonia’s team had played the game they wanted to play, despite the fact that the Czech team was slightly better than the one that came to Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium in 2009. Eric Delherbe also called for more international official games for Catalonia’s RL team.
During the aftermatch, both, Milan Mirtinek, president of the Czech Association, and Andrew Mulhall, congratulated Catalonia’s team for being a well balanced and a strong team. Prizes and gifts were exchanged and Albert Homs was paid homage after his last match as Catalonia’s captain.
