Catalonia’s national representative team, coached by Eric Delherbe lost last Saturday versus Morocco at its first official international match.
The first match of the new RLEF Euro Med Challenge between Catalonia and Morocco ended with a fair 6-29. The game, played at the ville of Torroella de Montgrí, in the beautiful Catalan Costa Brava, was followed by more than 800 people who filled a small and nice stadium. A strong and fast start from Morocco, together with some brilliant foot game put a 0-20 by the first half and clearly decided the match.
But surprisingly, Catalonia defended better than expected during the second half and achieved a promising 6-7 that did not changed the result but helped to make it reflect the good defensive work done by the Catalan team.
It is important to know, to understand why the Catalan team was so happy after the game, that Morocco’s team is entirely made out of French first division league players while most of the Catalan ones started competing in RL only a few months ago.
Catalonia’s next step: July 25th versus the Belgian team.
